And So Its Come to This........... a Blog

Why bother with creative original content when one can post the minutiae of a numbingly average life?

I am such a space cadet. I always forget when certain people's office hours are so I still haven't officially registered in half of my classes, geeze, I can't find certain professors when I look for them so I can get their signatures to drop the classes I need to drop. I mean, why do we need permission to drop a class anyway? I mean really, those people should be where I want them to be when I want them. I'm always running into people I'm trying to avoid all the time.

Alright. As you may know, Troy is back on campus which is cool, I went to see him last night and we talked about stuff and things, the usual.

I am already dreading French. It is just not an enjoyable experience for me at all, even though I would really like to master a second language this is just too difficult. The professor refuses to have us speak English at all so of course she goes on and on in French and we stare blankly, she asks us a question and we stare blankly, she wants our opinion, we stare blankly. It's like middle school. I feel bad because the professor is really nice, and she's only doing her job but oh man it is so much like middle school. We're all confused and can't communicate and our continued silence is undermining her sanity.

My non-fiction writing class so far promises to be a lot of fun. So it's not all bad.

Jessica is in England. Which is awesome. So I looked around my music for the most british thing I have and I came up with this little infectious britpop gem from the mid-90's. While America was obsessing over the remnants of grunge and Lilith Fair the Brits were enjoying a brand of anthemic sing-a-long pop rock music that never caught on in the states with the exception of Oasis and to a lesser extent, Blur. Anyway, here is Sleeper, which had a string of hits in Great Britain but had faded away by the new millennium. This was their debut single, Inbetweener, and had the British Press frothing at the mouth in ecstasy. Of course the British press is always doing that whenever any half-way decent band comes out, but I digress. Have a great time in England Jess!

Are these links working the way they should? Eh.

Big shock, last week it was Paul Renfro and now Heath Ledger. Why are the good actors dying?

From the soundtrack to 10 Things I Hate About You here is Sister Hazel's "Your Winter"

Well school days have begun again. My original schedule has been almost completely changed since I dropped my second Major. Here, for those interested, are what I will be taking:

EDU-3450, Instructional Applications of Computers

ENG-2412P, English Pedagogy Lab

ENG-3070, Non-Fiction Writing

FRE-1112, French II

HIS-2202P, History Pedagogy Lab

INT-1052, Soundings II

INT-2710, Collapse of a Civilization

SOC-2710, Demographics and Diversity

Well, fun. I've also actually confirmed that I will be able to graduate next year instead of wishfully hoping that it will end up being possible.

There is not much else to say, vacation was pretty subdued the only thing I did aside from reading and visiting my siblings at their places and the whole committee deal was Katie's birthday party which was fun.

Incidentally, that meeting was a disaster, I was completely unprepared (I had no idea the extent of notes I was supposed to do) and. Ouch. It was embarrassing. So one of the professors is convinced that I'm an idiot. Really, he does. I've never had a class with him so all that he has seen of me is my failure and excuses. Argggh.

Today's tune is "Natural One" by The Folk Implosion from the Kids soundtrack. It reached #23 on the pop charts in 1996.

If you are unsure how this all works, the directions are in the post below. Also, please remember that this song is for evaluation purposes and you should remember that this soundtrack is available in used bins everywhere on compact disc!

I've decided to add another little gimmick to my posts. In the interests of spreading good music I'll be putting up a song that you may download. Of course, it is for evaluation purposes only, but I figure you can get a better sense of why I'm loving a certain band or song at the moment by hearing an example rather then me throwing names about. So here you go, as a show of good faith here is one that most of you know:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4MNOIUVO

What you do is just enter those three letters in the box on the upper right and click download. Then wait the 40 seconds and click download again, voila. Tunage.

That's fun. What got me thinking about this song was that while I've been idly coasting through the blogs I came across this photo some blogger had gotten from PostSecret. Now there is a cool website, I'm not sure how 'true' they are but they sure are cool pieces of art:

If you're not familiar with the video here is a link to it (since I still haven't figured out how to embed those): http://youtube.com/watch?v=qmVn6b7DdpA

That card is more than a little heartbreaking. But of course I get sentimental about the strangest things - just, if the Bee Girl didn't make it how much chance do Iiiiiiiiiii have? Hahah, I don't know.

A lot of those cards are amazing, the secrets are all postcards mailed in anonymously to the blog's writers, I just might impulse buy one of the books the site puts out if I ever see one.

I am leaving Castleton tonight work very much not done but...eh.

The things I do for approval...as part of the Faculty Search Committee for the History Department I am right now up at Castleton reading through resumes for the Ast. Prof of European History position. Who knew there were so many German history scholars? I mean really, is it that fascinating? Anyway, it is a long, long process. I'll be here until Tuesday night.

For food I've bought some soda, Chef Boyardee tins and Ben & Jerry's. Oh, and I bought some Santitas chips and some of that spinach dip - one of the most delicious things ever. And apparantly not that bad for you if you overlook the whole sodium thing.

Not much else going on, I hope everyone is still enjoying their time off.

Oh, wait a minute for everyone's benefit I'd like to re-pimp LibraryThing:

There is a challenge about 1001 Books you should read before you die, and I decided to give it a shot. Especially because of this neat-o spreadsheet someone must have spent half of their life designing. Or not, but I view computer magic like your average Baby Boomer.

Spreadsheet site: http://johnandsheena.co.uk/books/?page_id=42

Seriously, download and check it out. I've read around 40 of the books, and probably twice that I've started and put down...Most of you probably won't see this since it's vacation and all but I wanted to put it down before I forgot.

edit: I added a hit counter whooooohoooo!
